THE ELA FOUNDATION PRESENTS THE 2007
GRANT RECIPIENTS

The following organizations received grants from the ELA Foundation in May 2007. These organizations showed leadership in the areas of arts and advocacy for adults with disabilities. The next deadline for ELA grants is November 1, 2007.

Landmine Survivors Network- Washington, DC
Showcased the work of artists with disabilities in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Pasadena Playhouse- Pasadena, California
Expanded programs and services for people who are hard of hearing or visually impaired through strategic and effective outreach and training.

Theatre Development Fund/ Theatre Access Project-
New York, New York

Advanced participation in live theatre for people who are hard of hearing or deaf through captioning and sign interpreting of performances on Broadway.

VSA Arts of Pennsylvania/Amaryllis Theatre Company- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Built awareness of the work of artists with disabilities as well as audiences for accessible programs and venues through Independence Starts Here: A Festival of Disability Arts and Culture. This festival will take place from October 18-Novermber 20 in 70 venues in Philadelphia.

ELA SCHOLARS ANNOUNCED FOR 2007

The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation (ELA), Inc. is pleased to announce the recipients of the ELA Scholarship for 2007:
Kathy Borovicka is attending Wayne State University and is pursuing an MD in Medicine.

Angela Howard is attending the University of Texas at Austin and pursuing a PhD in Sociology.

Kristen Jones is attending the University of Texas at Austin and pursuing an EdD in Multicultural Special Education.

Angela Kuemmel is attending Nova Southeastern University and is pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology.

JoAnn Shoup is the Lucille Fortier Owen Scholar named in honor of Lucille. She is pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Affairs from the University of Colorado-Denver Health Sciences. She is also a current ELA Scholar, having attained an ELA Scholarship in 1998.

Janice Ta is attending Yale University and pursuing a JD in Law.

The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation has been working to change the face of disability on the planet since 1994. Through this mission, we are committed to supporting the work of women with disabilities in graduate school that show leadership in the disability community. This year 6 recipients from across the country were chosen out of 111 applicants for this award.

The ELA Scholarship is awarded annually. Information and the application for the 2008 ELA Scholarship can be found on our website at www.ela.org. The next deadline for the ELA Scholarship is June 1, 2008
